Overview
Concrete cancer fixed at the source
Concrete cancer, or spalling, starts when water reaches the steel reinforcement and it begins to rust. Rust can grow to several times the size of the original steel, so it cracks and pushes the concrete off. Once the steel is exposed, more water gets in and the damage speeds up.
We repair the concrete and the reason it failed. Every job starts with an inspection to find the root cause, then a repair system chosen for the extent of damage, the exposure, and the structure. Products are applied to the manufacturer’s specification for mix ratios, cover depth, layer thickness, and rust inhibitors, including VicRoads approved products where required.
AWS Services was founded in 2000 by Director Carlos Abreu, who still manages operations today. Every project is backed by a team with experience across the civil, construction, and remedial sectors.

FAQs
Common questions
The questions we get asked most. Can’t see yours? Call 1300 665 325.
What causes concrete cancer?
Corroding steel reinforcement inside the concrete, usually because water and salts have reached it through cracks, failed waterproofing, poor drainage, or too little cover over the steel.
Does insurance cover it?
Usually not. Building and strata insurance generally covers accidents, not wear and tear, maintenance, or concrete cancer.
What materials do you use?
Anti-corrosion coatings for the steel, primers, high build repair mortars, structural grouts, and protective coatings or membranes, selected and applied to the manufacturer’s specification.
Do you offer slab inspections?
Yes. We offer complimentary slab inspections, especially before new floor toppings go down, for example after magnesite flooring has been removed.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the extent and depth of damage and the access needed. We inspect first and give you a clear scope and price.
